Marian Judith Karlberg
October 4, 1928 – September 11, 2021
Marian Judith Karlberg, 92, died on September 11, 2021 in Fruitland Park, FL., peacefully surrounded by family.
Marian was born October 4, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY the daughter of Judith and Olaf Tidmansen. She grew up in the Bay Ridge and Fort Hamilton sections of Brooklyn and graduated from Fort Hamilton High in 1946. She moved to Quincy, MA where she attended Simmons College graduating in 1950 with a Business degree.
She met her beloved husband Walter Ernest “Buddy” Karlberg on a semi-blind date in the late 1940s and they were wed in March, 1950. They were happily married for 59 years until Buddy’s passing in early 2009.
Marian began work as a legal secretary with a Boston law firm until the birth of their first son. All the time the children were growing up she remained at home working part-time jobs using her business degree. After the children were grown, she returned to the regular workforce outside of the home. Her last full-time job was the Executive Secretary for the President of a local bank in Massachusetts.
In 1989, Buddy and Marian moved from Scituate, MA to Orange Blossom Gardens (now The Villages). After moving to The Villages, she worked with Northside Christian Church until retiring for good in 1998.
Marian’s Christian faith was an essential part of her life. She was very active in the First Trinitarian Congregational Church in Scituate, MA and continued her strong involvement in churches in Florida.
She loved being with her husband and children, baking endlessly for them (and they enjoyed eating her baking), crocheting, knitting, shopping trips with her daughter, attending all the events her children were in, and just being with family and friends. She always sacrificed her needs for the good of her family.
During her 32 years at The Villages, she enjoyed being with her fellow residents in weekly exercise class, making toy bears for children with cancer, several social clubs and always making new friends.
Marian will be remembered as a selfless, kind, gentle, upbeat, welcoming person whose glass was always more than half-full. She had a quiet strength and was always graceful all the way until God called her home to be with her husband Buddy.
She is survived by her sons, Keith and his wife Gillian of Fruitland Park, FL, Kent and his wife Maureen of Scituate, MA, and Gregg and his wife Nancy of Summerville, SC; her daughter Kim and her husband Douglas of Jamaica Plain, MA; eight grandchildren, Jared and his wife Siobhan, Taylor, Judy and her husband Zachary, Caroline and her husband Gavin, Leigh, Jeff, Ashley and Tyler; and seven great-grandchildren, Nora, Maggie, Brendan, Hadley, Anna, Brooke, and Grace.
A Celebration of Life Service will be on Sunday, October 10 at 2 PM at the First Trinitarian Congregational Church, 381 Country Way, Scituate, MA.
Memorial donations may be made to Cornerstone Hospice Foundation.

In fond remembrance of ‘Nana’ & the warm welcome I & my family received on our visits to Florida. I was always impressed by how active Marion remained until very recently & how she always looked so groomed, with perfect hair & beautiful nails! An elegant & dignified lady who raised a wonderful family; may you rest in peace Marion, knowing how loved & cherished you were.
With our sincere sympathy & love,
Lorraine & Alan
